Approach
INSEMTIVES studies incentive models and means to optimally combine human and computer intelligence to enable the creation of massive amounts of valuable semantic data and to establish a global-scale user base therefor. These issues are seen as one of the core building blocks currently missing for a global adoption of semantic technologies. Activities carried out within the project to achieve this goal can be divided into four strategic categories
-
Methodologies, formal
models
and
methods
(
Research
)
A multidisciplinary effort to define incentive models and process methodologies for semantic content authoring, mechanisms to integrate human and computational intelligence, methods supporting various phases of the life cycle of the generated content and models for its representation.

End-user tools and infrastructure (Development)
To insure acceptance across a broad audience, we aim at developing lightweight, Web-based, software components that will be smoothly integrated into the INSEMTIVES Platform and Toolkit. These components will be open-source and easily deployable and extendable by the semantic technology community interested in facilitating ontology engineering and semantic annotation tasks.

Case studies (Uptake and Evaluation)
INSEMTIVES technology will show the appropriateness of the research and development undertaken in the project within diverse scenarios, ranging from the entertainment sector to enterprise knowledge management, through Web data and services consumption.

Dissemination, exploitation and project management (Impact)
We follow a proactive impact creation strategy that will synchronize community-driven dissemination and exploitation activities to ensure broad impact beyond the projects ' lifetime. Our efforts aim at involving a critical mass of the semantic technology community through open challenges and competitions, as well as awareness raising events targeting various areas.

The following figure depicts the core scientific and technological objectives of the project :
- Design methodologies for semantic content authoring balancing between human and computational intelligence;
- Design incentive models and participatory methods enabling massive human involvement in semantic content authoring tasks;
- Design models for representing user-generated semantic content and methods for supporting the life cycle of this content ;
- Implement a semantic content management platform and end-user semantic authoring tools based on the design guidelines and incentive mechanisms defined.
INSEMTIVES will implement three case studies in order to exercise the scientific and technology outputs in the sectors of knowledge management in the telecommunication sector, services technology, and online games and virtual worlds.
