INSEMTIVES - Incentives for Semantics

Collaborators

ACTIVE

ACTIVE Knowledge-Powered Enterprise

ACTIVE aims to increase the productivity of knowledge workers in a pro-active, contextualised, yet easy and unobtrusive way. The aim is to convert tacit and unshared knowledge - the "hidden intelligence" of enterprises - into transferable, interoperable and actionable knowledge to support seamless collaboration and to enable problem solving. A key aspect will be support for informal procedural knowledge - the informal collaboration and problem-solving tasks that drive much knowledge work in the enterprise.

KIWI

Knowledge in a Wiki

KiWi – Knowledge in a Wiki is an EU -funded project (No 211932 ) combining the wiki philosophy with methods of the Semantic Web , aiming to develop a new approach to knowledge management .

The main outcomes of the project will be

  1. an enhanced wiki vision (the "KiWi vision") describing how the "convention over configuration" paradigm of wikis combined with semantic technologies can lead to flexible and problem-oriented knowledge management ,
  2. a collaborative, web-based environment (the "KiWi system") that provides support for knowledge sharing, knowledge creation, and coordination in software and project knowledge management,
  3. the evaluation of this system in two concrete, representative use cases at our industry partners,
  4. the "KIWI handbook", describing the project vision, the KiWi system functionalities, as well as giving recommendations and best practices for using the system in concrete knowledge management scenarios.

CASAM

Computer-Aided Semantic Annotation of Multimedia

CASAM will develop a remedy for the double problem of expensive manual work and unexploited multimedia resources. The CASAM software will use state-of-the-art computer technology to analyse automatically multimedia sources and provide detailed and systematic sets of descriptions for their content.

CASAM provides the most efficient combination of automatic and human annotation, saving time and money. It is the best way to exploit multimedia content for primary and secondary usage: helping editors choose video footage, soundbites, and images for any kind of production and helping freelance journalists and producers to sell their work to media outlets. It can unlock dormant material for re-use in new contexts, whether snippets or entire videos.

While CASAM is meant as a search and retrieve tool for professional broadcasters, producers , and online media, it could one day be rolled out for use by the general public.

PlanetData

A European Network of Excellence on Large-Scale Data Management

PlanetData aims to establish a sustainable European community of researchers that supports organizations in exposing their data in new and useful ways. The ability to effectively and efficiently make sense out of the enormous amounts of data continuously published online, including data streams, (micro)blog posts, digital archives, eScience resources, public sector data sets, and the Linked Open Data Cloud, is a crucial ingredient for Europe's transition to a knowledge society. It allows businesses, governments, communities and individuals to take decisions in an informed manner, ensuring competitive advantages, and general welfare.
